The Shaukeens - Movie Review

Movie Review:

“The Shaukeens” is a remake of Basu Chatterjee’s Shaukeen of 1982 starring Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt, A.K. Hangal, Mithun Chakravorty & Rati Agnihotri.

Similar to the original movie, “The Shaukeens” is the story of Three old men Lali (Anupam Kher), KD (Annu Kapoor) & Pinky (Piyush Mishra) fed-up with their dull lifestyle in Delhi, goes to Mauritius to have some fun. They meet a beautiful girl Ahana (Lisa Haydon) and starts liking her. Ahana being a die-hard fan of Bollywood Star Akshay Kumar, is ready to do anything for meeting him once. Lali, KD & Pinky tries different ways and means to complete Ahana’s wish expecting she would spice up their life.

All the three lead stars Anupam Kher, Annu Kapoor & Piyush Mishra has done a tremendous job. They can surely take you through a laughter ride. Lisa Haydon looks sizzling on screen. But Akshay Kumar playing himself, is the one who steals the show with his pin-point comic timing and shear screen presence.

The story of “The Shaukeens” is quite simple and that is what makes it so special. Screenplay and script is very well written. Dialogues and background music is good, while songs & choreography is foot tapping and enjoyable. After his excellent work in “Tere Bin Laden” of 2010, Abhishek Sharma has again done an excellent work as Director and comes out as someone having good hold on Comedy Flicks.

The Bottom Line: “The Shaukeens” is a crisp and pleasant remake, a full-on Bollywood entertainer. Worth a Watch!
